On September 22, 2010, Barrick Gold Corp. completed the acquisition of the Golden Giant Mine Property at the Hemlo Camp in North-Western Ontario. Years earlier, Golden Giant had installed MDT’s MPBX and SMART cables to monitor various areas.
When Barrick re-entered the mine in 2010, MDT’s instruments were still in place and were still functioning. Barrick was able to plug in MDT’s instruments, get quick readings and compare them to data from five years back.
“MDT’s instruments are well designed and robust,” said Patrick Langlais, Ground Control EIT at Barrick Gold. “We had gone over five years without data. The instruments gave us invaluable information about what the ground was doing so we could resume mining with confidence.”
